Making my 2nd Edition Mystic Misfits Oracle Deck.
Last year I launched my first oracle deck. It was a huge project and I ultimately screen printed them. I thought it created a nice eclectic feel to the deck. This year I just wasn't able to print anymore due to health reasons and the amount of work it took for each deck.... The screens have been destroyed the rest left from the run are limited.
I wanted to revamp the deck and take them else where to get printed from an actual playing card company. And I and amazed at the results. I love this deck even more then the first.
I wanted to edit some cards I was no longer content with and re imagine others... Plus I added six more cards to the deck for a total of 28.
An issue I ran into with screen printing the decks was card backs. Only the original kickstarter backs for the original decks had card back designs. I didnt have a set up to accurately line up the sheets of screen prints..... So each card was printed on the back individually. With the new decks I was able to do a much more complex design. I also decided to have the booklets sprinted as well.
The packaging got a fresh new look too. I was always considering the wax seals with the first deck but finally took the plunge 2nd deck around. I also updated the bags from velvet to satin.
This oracle deck took ideas from all over the place from Tarot, Astrology and Runic inspirations and artistic translations. Each card had a descriptive sentence that described the character with keywords of influence. In the original booklet I had left blank pages if the diviner so decided to add to the meanings to find their own meanings. I kept this trait in the new booklet and left some blank space.
It's been great to see a huge project come to life again and I look forward to possibly making other decks in the future.
You can now find the New oracle HERE.

The oracle is now LIVE on Kickstarter.
I can't believe it's finally up and done. Within 24 hours fully funded! I have always avoided kickstarter with fear of failing but it's a huge pressure off my chest to finally have it done and over with(even though the journey has just begun). I have been working on this deck for an eternity it seems and still am, actually. I'm still finalizing images and making sure they are optimized for the printing procedure.
Initially I hadn't decided on my mode of printing a couple were just too detailed for screen printing small. Though the sample print of what I consider my problem child was for the most part successful the moon card needs a lot of work yet. I am also considering adding more cards as the kickstarter progresses.
I am so happy I choose screen printing for means of creating the deck. Though its so much more hands on and will be crazy until a larger run of them is done here in studio, the look and feel are amazing. It's not just some kind of mass produced deck from overseas. I wanted a thoughtful deck of things that inspired me as well as utilizing inspirations from tarot, runes and astrology. I wanted something I could stand behind and put my name on with pride to represent me and my brand.
There is still much more work on my end to be done... I have a book design in mind for the companion booklet if done correctly will be fairly unique and compliment the deck. unfortunately some aspects of the project are a little low key due to still being in early stages of testing and production. (book and bag)
The bag will also have artwork which is still being designed at the moment. I want the bags to compliment the set. I have a basic idea of where it is going and part of it is done but I need to play with it a bit.
I look forward to posting more updates as the project continues!
